Duffels are the newest piece of lightweight luggage to gain in popularity. They have always been popular with campers and were originally called soft trunks. Summer campers have been using them almost exclusively for a long time. Then these duffels caught on with the college crowd. They quickly realized that duffels would fit easily under the bed or behind a closet for convenient storage. Now with the strict weight restrictions on baggage for airline travel, the duffel is catching on with all travelers. Whether you’re planning a trip to a ski area or to a beautiful sunny resort, the duffel will neatly hold all of your clothing and accessories. They are truly lightweight and unstructured; so there is always room for one more article of clothing or one more pair of shoes.

Does Anyone Know Where I Can Get A Soft Sided *rolling* Duffel Bag With As Little Structure As Possible?
Friday, October 16th, 2009I am looking for a Christmas present for my parents– they travel a lot– mostly by plane and mostly camping once they get there [odd combination, I know]. Because of this they need to pack a lot of stuff for even short trips and they have been using their large rollerboard suitcases. They have been complaining about these because they are 1. not very condusive to camping, 2. hard to “squeeze” into rental cars, and 3. the suitcases are getting old. They take some duffels with them, but without wheels they can be hard to travel with.
So, what I am looking for is a duffel bag with wheels, but very little structure. I have seen people in the airport with bags that have wheels but no “pull out handle” [which is what the structure is needed for], instead there is only a cloth handle [or similar] at the top to pull with. If anyone knows where I might be able to find something like this, I would really appreciate it!!!
